Clippin' for a Cure

A Fundraiser Benefiting the Cooper Cancer Institute

My name is JoAnne Corson. I am a stylist, a patient of the Cooper Cancer Institute (CCI), and a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2003, I am happy to say that today I am cancer free thanks to the phenomenal team of physicians, nurses, and staff at CCI.

I was fortunate. I had a great healthcare team, dependable health insurance and was able to continue working. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for many breast cancer patients. Every day women with breast cancer have to decide between paying their electric bill or paying for their pain medicine. Every day women with breast cancer have to leave their jobs (and lose their health benefits) to undergo their cancer treatments. Every day women with breast cancer have to choose between caring for their family or caring for themselves.

My cancer and recovery have given me a new purpose. In 2004, I established “Clippin’ for a Cure” with The Manor Salon & Spa in Mantua, New Jersey, where I have worked for most of my career. The Manor opened its doors on a Sunday in October, and staff and stylists donated their time and talents for the day. Last year several other South Jersey salons took part – each creating an activity that worked best for their staff and clients.

We invite you to take part in “Clippin’ for a Cure” during the month of October. It’s a great way to honor your mother, sisters, and friends who have been touched by breast cancer.

All funds raised through “Clippin’ for a Cure” directly benefit CCI cancer patients with costs of care, such as co-pays, prescriptions and transportation, basic needs such as utility bills and emergency distributions for food, and innovative clinical research projects. CCI social workers evaluate patients’ needs and closely manage the distribution of all funds.
