About Me
Amit R.T. Joshi, MD, FACS, is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education/Designated Institutional Official and Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. Between 2010-2021, he was the residency Program Director and Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs for the Department of Surgery at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Board of Surgery’s (ABS) Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE)—which is the national curriculum for surgery. He was also the 2023-2024 President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery.
At Brown University’s 8-year Program in Liberal Medical Education, he received his BA in Music in 1997 and MD (with academic distinction) in 2001. He completed his surgical residency at New York Presbyterian/Cornell and fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at North Shore/Long Island Jewish Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. His clinical interests include general surgery with a focus on hernia repairs.
His principal research interests are resident recruitment and curricular development within surgical training. He has authored over 150 scientific manuscripts and presentations.
He has held leadership positions in many organizations:
- Board of Directors of the ABS. He served on its Audit and Finance committees, the DEI Task Force, and the Strategic Planning Committee.
- Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons, serving on its Executive Committee as Lead of the Education Pillar.
- Member of the 2nd Blue Ribbon Committee on Optimal General Surgery Training—co-sponsored by the American College of Surgeons and the American Surgical Association.
- Executive Committee, Educational Quality Improvement Project (EQIP) of the APDS
- Past-President of the Philadelphia chapter of the American College of Surgeons
- Editorial Board, Journal of Surgical Education
- Co-chair of the Planning Committee of the Coalition of Physician Accountability.
