Why Choose Cooper for Pediatric Surgery?

Parents and caregivers choose Cooper for pediatric surgery because of our:

  • Surgical expertise: When your child needs surgery, safety is your top concern. Our team includes pediatric surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, and other subspecialists, many of whom are fellowship-trained in their areas of expertise. This advanced training means our experts are equipped to perform a full range of surgical procedures on children of all ages, including newborns.
  • Team approach: Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper has 27 pediatric subspecialist programs – more than any other hospital in South Jersey. As our specialists collaborate, you can be confident your child is receiving timely, expert care for any surgical procedure.
  • National recognition: Cooper’s pediatric surgeons have gained national recognition from the National Pediatric Trauma Registry, reflecting their surgical excellence. You can be confident your child is in excellent hands with our pediatric surgeons.
  • Research and innovation: We strive to be on the leading edge of medical education and research. Our entire surgical staff stays on top of the most recent advancements in pediatric surgery techniques, ensuring all children receive the highest level of care.
  • Thoughtful, family-centered care approach: We care deeply about our patients and their families, and it’s evident in everything we do. We care for our pediatric patients as if they were our own children, taking the time to explain a procedure to them and their families, answer their questions, and help put them at ease. As part of our pre-surgery program, our pediatric surgeons meet patients in the operating room before surgery and show them little details, like the scrubs they’ll wear during the operation. This helps put children at ease and lets families meet our skilled specialists firsthand.

Post Procedure (Recovery)

When it comes to caring for kids who need surgery, Cooper serves as a pediatric hospital within an adult hospital. Children who need to be admitted to the hospital are cared for on the pediatric floor, which features single and double rooms, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Parents may stay with their child all day and night.

As part of their recovery, Cooper aims to minimize children’s pain and any anxiety, treating the physical as well as the psychological aspects of pain. We offer a continuity of care that may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological care, depending on the child’s specific needs. In addition, we provide social work and child life care to our patients as well as games, art therapy, and pet therapy during their recovery.
