What Is Radiation Therapy?

acr_logo.jpgRadiation therapy - the use of high level radiation to destroy cancer cells — is one of the most common treatments for cancer. The Department of Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper offers comprehensive evaluation, treatment and follow-up care for patients who need radiation therapy for cancer. We are a multidisciplinary cancer center that is part of the state’s first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

MD Anderson at Cooper offers the most advanced radiation therapy treatments and approaches available, maximizing the potential for cure while minimizing the side effects associated with radiation therapy.

Our radiation oncologists, all of whom are board certified, are experts in treating all types of cancer. They are actively involved in developing and conducting clinical trials to test new ways to use radiation therapy to fight cancer, including studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Clinical trials provide you with access to the latest advances in and research on radiation therapy before they are widely available.

In addition, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper's Department of Radiation Oncology maintains accreditation by the American College of Radiology and conforms to their rigid standards. We are one of the only practices in South Jersey to have achieved such recognition.
