Hands-On Programs

Safe Kids Southern New Jersey offers unique hands-on programs for caregivers and children that provide specific strategies for injury prevention. Working in partnership with schools, community and religious groups, public safety organizations and hospitals, Safe Kids offers a range of information and programs designed to keep children safe – 24 hours a day.

Safety on the Road Programs

Child Passenger Safety

  • FREE monthly car seat classes with certified child passenger safety technicians.
  • Educational workshops for teachers, parents, and caregivers on how to correctly install a car seat.

Wheeled Sport Safety

New Jersey law states that children under 17 must wear a helmet when bicycle riding, roller skating or skate boarding. In an effort to increase the number of kids who wear a safety helmet, Safe Kids can offer:

  • Workshops on brain injury prevention to schools and community groups.
  • Ready to Roll Bike Rodeo, a fun, unique bicycle safety clinic complete with bike safety inspections, helmet fitting.

Pedestrian Safety

Safe Kids educates parents and their children about safe pedestrian skills. Through a partnership with FedEx Express, Safe Kids has launched a comprehensive initiative, Walk This Way program, focusing on pedestrian safety and driver behavior.

Safety In and Around the Home

Home Safety

Home Safety 101 is a special program for parents, grandparents, schools, community groups and other caregivers that can help protect children from common household hazards, such as fire, burns and drowning.

Water Safety

Knowing how and where children drown, as well as strategies to avoid danger, may make a life-and-death difference for your family. Safe Kids provides education for both children and caregivers on how to prevent this quick and silent killer of children.

Fire Safety

Preparation and education are key elements of preventing fire tragedies. Planning and practicing a fire escape route with your family and talking to your children about what to expect in a fire are simple steps anyone can take. Safe Kids partners with local fire Marshalls and fire departments to provide fire safety presentations for parents and children.

Poison Prevention

More than 90 percent of all poison exposures occur in homes, and children are at the greatest risk for being poisoned and for suffering the most serious medical consequences of exposure. The Poison Prevention program is designed for children 3- to 8-years old. Through interactive games and videos, children learn to identify avoid potentially dangerous situations.
